sad but true
June 14, 2004 / 10:20 PM

Today I put the first coat of paint on the bedroom walls and did five loads of laundry, and therefore am feeling generally well accomplished. I also made a million phone calls. The Yaz now has a vet appointment on Saturday, and is starting obedience classes later this month. He's a very gentle and shy pooch, and I think he would benefit from some confidence boosting. I also called the shelter we adopted him from to determine what sort of food he was being fed , because he actually hasn't wanted to eat since coming home with us on Saturday. They suggested mixing in some wet food with dry, and this did work. He ate so fast that I suppose his empty, nervous stomach rebelled and he promptly threw it back up. By the way, he also managed to get carsick on his trip home. The dog keeps this up and we have to change his name from The Yaz to The Yak.

Lots of TLC for The Yaz will get him acclimated to you guys. In the meant, while he still acclimates, he'll be throwing up, not eating enough, and generally be extra extra shy and hyper sensitive to everything...that's how Emma was the first couple of months...

awww, poor Yaz. Can I say "poor Yaz" or must it be "poor THE Yaz" like "a very special The O.C."? What ever will you do with Senor Yaz while your vacationing in Vegas next February?!

hmmm, i'm not sure- he doesn't seem like much of a gambler. i suppose he'll have to be boarded. "The" is officially part of his name (because the vet said it was ok!), but we call him just plain yaz too...

People I know who are involved in dog rescue say that the first several weeks after adopting a dog are the "honeymoon" period. The dog's true (for better or worse) is more likely to show up once they're comfortable where they are.

Motion sickness is not uncommon in pooches.

My shy rescue dog blossomed in agility classes. At first she was afraid of everything but by the end of the first session she was going over the A frame just for the heck of it. Something to consider down the road a year perhaps.

Inspiration I read once that the ancient Egyptians had fifty words for sand & the Eskimos had a hundred words for snow. I wish I had a thousand words for love, but all that comes to mind is the way you move against me while you sleep & there are no words for that.
