knittish behavior over the past year or so
Originally uploaded by wordsforsnow.
Since I left my office yesterday I have been out on a real date with my husband, knit half of a bath mitt as a thank you present for our babysitter, bought Josie her first hat and sunglasses to protect her cavebaby head when we frolic in the great outdoors tomorrow, planted about dozen pots, raked and prepared the sideyard, planned out the perennial and rock garden, been to lunch with my family, been yarn shopping, been to Lowe’s and slept in for the first time in a month. I have to keep reminding myself that I have a whole week to relax, so I can relax and enjoy the relaxing.

I’m really looking forward to having some uninterrupted knitting time this vacation. These days I usually only have the time and the brainpower to knit socks, or a hat here or there. Socks travel well in my purse, so I can keep my fingers busy on the rare occasions I have to sit down at work. (My predominantly white male partners tolerate this behavior as long as I keep up a steady stream of baseball banter, so they can pretend that I’m not leaking estrogen into their breathing space with my crafting,) But with a little more free time I’m hoping to tackle my first stuffed toy as a gift for an upcoming first birthday present. Anybody out there up for a knit along? Or willing to field questions if I fail miserably?

I'm down with that. Keep me updated if it happens. I have yet to knit a toy.

Great pictures of your knitted goodies Suzie Momma!

I'm so bad. I have barely touched my knitting since I bought my spinning wheel. In the past week alone I've spun three 4 oz skeins of beautiful merino, corridale and merion/kid mohair two ply yarn.

I'll admit it. I'm guilty of sock neglect. I only have to do the decreases and graft the toe of the second sock and I've got a lovely pair of vividly striped footie goodness.

So much fibre, so little time. *sigh*

I'm in SUCH a non-crafty mood this year that I'll never be able to keep up in a knit-along, but sugar, I'm here for technical questions and general cheering on the sidelines.

Email me, honey, and I'll send you my phone number! Ha! Real time conversation, concerning the best methods for decreasing on the sides of short rows! And other stuff!

I have been following your blog for several months now and just now I'm hearing that you knit? Yay!! Another reason to like you! Keep us updated with your toy, Kate. I have Jess Hutchinson's book, Unusual Toys for you to Knit and Enjoy and her toys are great. When your baby gets a bit older she'll love them. Good luck!

I'm up for a KAL if you are. =) I haven't knit a toy yet. Sounds like fun.

It's not a toy, but I have an irrational urge to knit a squid hat:

Unfortunately it's waaaaay far down my must knit list, what with all these coworkers popping out kids.

Inspiration I read once that the ancient Egyptians had fifty words for sand & the Eskimos had a hundred words for snow. I wish I had a thousand words for love, but all that comes to mind is the way you move against me while you sleep & there are no words for that.
