the turning point
October 16, 2006 / 10:46 PM
Today I received some very overpriced (and French!) eye cream in the mail. I plan to use it along with my overpriced moisturizer to combat the insidious fine lines that have appeared overnight on my face. I also had about three inches of hair cut off and bought a Subaru Forester. (We already owned a Subaru, but it was of the practical "good in the snow, good on gas, sport wagon" category. Although the Forester remains a good choice in snow and gets better gas mileage than any other SUV we looked at, it is blatantly, unabashedly a family vehicle. Somebody, please prove me wrong and tell me that you are a childless Forester driver and make my day.) On Sunday I turn THIRTY-FOUR years old.
Hi, my name is Suzie, and I’ll be your soccer mom this evening.

Heh. Meester had a subaru wagon when he was in college. However, he painted flames on his.
But still, he was single AND childless.

A friend at work drove a Forester when I met her. She was a childless Forester driver for several years. (I'll leave out the part about how she's expecting child #2 right now and there's a Winnie the Pooh sun shade in said Forester)
Just keep telling yourself at least it's not a minivan.
Something about this time of year must make people turn to cosmetics. Maybe the fact that since summer is over, they no longer slide off one's face five minutes after one walks out the door.

Ok...which eye cream specifically? I've just turned 44 on Sunday and I'm feeling very dowdy.

We just gave in and bought the Wagon Queen Family Truckster, aka a Chevy Equinox. It's not too bad, actually, although though I may be rationalizing.

Happy Early Birthday! 34's nothing. Been there, working right through it! :)
I can't say anything about the Subaru...mainly 'cause even if the boy and I had kids, I'd still drive a Honda Civic!

Aren't you still the girl who said at 30 that age was meaningless? What you need is some glitter for your boob shelf. It makes everything better. :)

If you makes you feel better, I'm a childless Mitsubishi Outlander (the cheaper alternative to a Forester) driver. I upgraded from my old Honda Civic. My friend with two kids absolutely loves my car. :)

Don't let Bob try to fool you, he likes the new big rig. He refers to it as "his" car.

I hope you manage to have a restful birthday - you deserve it! (Or, at least day before your birthday)

NO!!! You can't say that you're getting lines and turning into a soccer mom because dammit, I'm going to be 34 on Sunday!
Does it make it any better that I'm jetting to Cleveland and driving to Latrobe, PA for a rock show this weekend? Does that undo our soccer momness?

I used to buy the really expensive creams and such. Then, I discovered Aveeno products. The best stuff I have ever used. Nice for my combination skin. They have the radiant cleansers, eye brighteners, and non-greasy moisturizers that simply soak into the skin leaving a fresh feel. Wouldn't be without the Aveeno products now. You can buy them in any drugstore, K-Mart, or Wal-Mart across the country. You and your family have just purchased the vehicle I dream of having. God bless...
